Here are some highlights apart from the everyday mundane things that we do whilst here at NAS Jacksonville.
February 2nd, 2019
We went for a walk around the campground. They have created a walkway through the woodland and it's really a work in progress, but has made it easier to walk through the area. They had some tree damage from the hurricane in 2017, and this is a cleanup from that.
They have built an enclosed shelter that you can go and sit in, eventually they hope to have a barbecue there.
This is the view from the shelter.
We sat on the swing and just admired the view.

We decided to go bowling. It was the first time for Trystan and the first time for Bryan since his knee surgery. Bryan did well although I was having a heart attack. He only bowled one game, and his action is a little hampered but will improve. I didn't bowl as I was having anxiety watching Bryan and focusing on him, ha!!ha!! Everyone enjoyed it though.

We decided to go on a little day trip to check out Eagle Hammock, the military campground at Kings Bay, Georgia. It wasn't a bad campground but a little off the beaten track and we still prefer Mayport. A good alternative if everywhere else is booked up though.

We stumbled across St. Marys, a small town that is the gateway to the Cumberland Island National Seashore, although we didn't take the ferry across to the island.
There was a small park we walked around.
Bryan went in this small museum while I sat on a bench by the waterside and relaxed.

Although it was small, it was jam packed with history.
My view from my bench.
It was good to get out for the day and explore a bit.

We had to pack up the motorhome today so Bryan could take it to get propane as we were nearly empty. While he went I sat and waited for him in our awning that we have set up. I had a visitor keeping me company. So cute!!!

I went to see another eye doctor today that my lady suggested I go to check that he agreed with her solution to my problem and agreed with the corrections she would make with a lens exchange. He has experience and does Laser & PRK surgery which made me feel a little better. His office was more professional and had more equipment to check my eyes with. Ultimately he agreed that a lens exchange would be the best solution but that although they could have a better guess now that they have seen the result from the cataract surgery there were still no guarantees. Ultimately, we agreed he would do the surgery but I asked him if insurance would cover it and he seemed hesitant and said they would find out. They scheduled the surgery for a couple of weeks time.

We went to the zoo to get some exercise and Bryan decided to just walk without a scooter, and we would pace ourselves.
The alligator enclosure. Can you spot them? There's at least 4 in the picture below.

The tiger enclosure is Bryans favorite as I'm sure you're aware. Unfortunately, it's at the very end of the park and there is no quick way to get there. Well, I guess we could get the train part of the way but that would be cheating wouldn't it!!!!

I chatted to a volunteer while we were watching the tigers. She was telling me about the baby monkey here, whose mother is blind and having trouble looking after the baby. The keepers are interacting with the baby, and crawling around the enclosure on all fours, and carrying it around like a mother monkey would do. Such dedication. They are talking about using one of the other monkeys as a surrogate mother. Is a slow, long thought out process to ensure there is no rejection, and they all fare well.

These otters were playing by the tiger enclosure. I hadn't seen them here before.
The monkey enclosure
The Mandrill Monkey fascinates me. So beautiful and the colors are amazing. His face, stomach and butt are so colorful, it was difficult to get a picture that did him justice. I watched him forever.

We did a lot of walking and Bryans knee held up well. So, a good day.
That's it for February, one more month here before we move on.
