June 2020 - Fort Clinch State Park

June 22nd, 2020
We told the other camphosts we were "escaping" for the day and headed out to Fort Clinch State Park.

There is a campground here where the sites were nice.  The entrance road had low overhanging trees though and was narrow so might be a problem if a vehicle was coming the other way.

There was a nice beach.

There was a visitor centre here that had a small area that told some history of the site.
General Duncan Lamont Clinch

From there we went to the fort.

Can you spot the white egret?

We love exploring these old forts and this one didn't disappoint.

On the way out of the park we stopped at Egans Creek Overlook.

I guess the creek was dry!!!!

but we got a good view of Amelia Island Lighthouse.

While sitting and enjoying the peace and quiet Bryan got a call from Nancy, the other camphost.  She was asking him about a missing tile in the laundry room. The tile or lack of, is hidden behind the washers and has ben missing for a long while.  There was no emergency and I'm not sure what the necessity of the call was, but it did kind of spoil the moment.

We headed back to the campground after a nice day out.  I'm not sure when we will escape again!!!
