August 2020 - Exploring Campgrounds, Old & New - Madison, Suwanee River State Park, Stephen Foster State Park,

August 2020

August 10th, 2020

We took advantage of someone being in the office and had a day out. We decided to go and look at a new campground I had read about on facebook and I found a couple of State Parks in the same area, that I thought would be fun to go to as well and look at the campgrounds there.

It was a couple of hours drive but it was fun to just get away.

Madison Golf & RV Resort was our first stop. Wow, what a place. We will probably try and book a month here next year and try it out. There's a 9 hole golf course, pickle ball courts, swimming pool, catch and release fishing. If you book a month you get a golf cart and as much golf as you want for free while you're here.  The rates are $200 a month cheaper than we're paying in Jacksonville, although I'm sure as soon as they get established the rates will go up.

Pickleball Courts.  They have lessons.  We have been talking about playing this, maybe we'll give it a shot!!

The RV Park Office is nearly finished being built.  This building will also have shower and laundry facilities.

Here's some pictures of the sites.

After leaving the Golf & RV Resort we visited a couple of State Parks on our way home.  They both have campgrounds we wanted to look at, although we're not big fans of State Park campgrounds as the sites are usually difficult for us to get into.

First stop was Suwannee River State Park.

We found the road to the campground.

There were a few sites we could fit into but none we really had to be at.

The boat launch area was so pretty.

Next stop was the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park.  This park was far more interesting to us, unless we missed something major at the Suwanee River State Park.

The Museum wasn't open

We drove around the campground but I didn't get any pictures.  There were quite a few sites that we would be able to fit into though.

There was a pretty walkway down to a gazebo and informative signs about the area.

This marker showed the level the water had risen to in prior floods. Way above our heads.

The highest the river rose was on April 10th, 1973 when it it was 88.56ft. The most recent noted flood on this marker was on February 26th, 1998 when it was 84.70ft.

We spent a while here as it was lovely and then headed home.

On the way home we saw this and are not sure what it was but maybe they were dredging the canal/river or an area of water.

We had a lovely relaxing day out with no interruptions and returned home with a spring in our step, ha!!ha!!
