January 2021
We saw in the New Year and continued planning our trip for this year. We are hoping to cover ALL the North Eastern States. We had already booked some campgrounds at the end of last year and I finally booked a month in June at a campground in Maine. At the moment there is a quarantine of 14 days when entering the State and we will have to see if that is lifted or we will cancel. The planning takes forever but what else do I have to do. The goal is to complete the top right hand side of this map, this year!!
We also had to complete our medical, hearing and dental appointments to get ready to leave the area in February.
We eventually left NAS Jacksonville on January 20th, after 450 days here!!! Our initial stay was supposed to be 180 days but due to the Coronavirus we were able to stay longer as the campground closed down to new arrivals. 450 days is by far the longest we have been in one place since we left Las Vegas back in 2013.

We didn't go far, about 45 minutes to Pelican Roost Campground at Mayport. You will recognize this place as we have been here many times and it's one of our favourite parks.
It didn't take me long to start taking pictures.
All taken from our front window!!!

I have seen numerous dolphins this week but this was the first time I'd been able to get pictures, although not brilliant ones.

I went for a walk around the campground and down to the beach. It was cool but invigorating.

| Lots of shells |
The beach was virtually deserted.
I spotted something behind the rocks, looks like a cat.
Yes, it's a feral cat. They used to be around the campground but looks like they've migrated to the beach. Not a bad place to hang around.

Back at the house, more ship watching.

Today turned into a windy, raining miserable day bu it was kept interesting as lots of ships came in, maybe to escape the weather conditions.

This one was heading out. The USS Tornado is also due to be decommissioned on February 18th, 2021 and will be sold to a foreign military partner.
The Q-LNG-4000, pictured below, is a new purpose built ship to provide safe and reliable ship-to-ship transfers of the cleaner-burning Liqufied Natural Gas(LNG). It was on it's way to Port Canaveral where it will fuel Carnivals new ship "Mardi Gras", which will be the first ship in the Americas powered by LNG.
Later, the gate was reopened after being closed earlier. The water was quite choppy and it took them a while to travel the short distance.

| Here they are securing the gate. |
Another one coming in. This is #14 returning after going out earlier.
and the 13 also came back in. We must have missed when that went out again after it returned on the 22nd.

It was very windy and the seas were rough and although I know the ships can handle it I'm glad these ones didn't have to overnight.

The weather was better today although the seas were still a little rough.

The Delbert D Black came back, they went out on the 25th so they were out in the bad weather. At least they probably weren't in the middle of the ocean. I know they have to contend with much rougher seas out there.

We spent the day getting ready to leave tomorrow and were rewarded with another amazing sunset. We will miss those and the ships, pelicans and dolphins but we will return, probably in October.

I took one last picture before we left our site.
Here we are going over one of the many bridges in Jacksonville.

Coronavirus Update
I am going to stop this update as we are now traveling and, to be honest, it is too depressing!!! The figures have gone up again this month but I would hope they will start to decrease as more people get vaccinated. I am still keeping track of the numbers but I'm not sure how long that will continue. 😔
We are remaining diligent and wearing our masks when out and about, still not eating in restaurants but getting take out.
