March 9th-31st, 2021 - Blue Angel Recreation Area, Moms

March 9th - 14th, 2021

Our stay at Blue Angel Recreation Area was relaxing.

We spent a day looking around a small development in Lillian, Alabama that has lots that you can use for RV's, mobile homes or small houses. It is not gated but we like that every time we go and drive around a security guy will always ask us nicely if we are ok and if he can help us. We explain that we are just looking at houses and they are ok with that. They obviously keep a close eye on everyone going through. Unfortunately none of the lots that were for sale in our price range were big enough for a house and our RV.  We will continue to keep an eye on this development but are also going to be looking on our travels this year.

Another day we walked around the museum on the main base. We have been around here a few times and so although these pictures are new you might have seen them from prior visits.

Ryan's first ship.

I'm not sure I've seen this exhibit before but it has a fantastic story.
Killer Cooler

Here's an extract from the Pensacola News Journal.

"A refrigerator damaged in a World War II kamikaze attack and bombing is the latest addition to the National Naval Aviation Museum's extensive collection of artifacts.

Dubbed the "Killer Kooler," the Kelvinator Icebox was in the ready room of two aircraft carriers that took part in the war. The 1940s-era appliance is painted with the names of the men who served in fighter squadron VF-34 commanded by Navy Lt. Cmdr. Robert Conrad."

Anyway on to more pictures.
Presidential Helicopter

I had to get a picture of this TOAD!!! It stands for Tactical Overseas Aviation Detachment.

The Late A.V.FROG 😉

Of course we remember Desert Storm well.  Bryan was in Turkey, and due to come home after a three month stint, when Kuwait was invaded by Iraq. We didn't know if he would come home or have to stay out there.  They were told before they took off "if the plane turns right after take off we're going home, if it turns left we're going to Kuwait."  Fortunately it turned right.  He did have to return to the Middle East and stayed at Khobar Towers which was later bombed in a terrorist attack.

We decided to have lunch in the cafe in the museum.  This is the first time we have eaten out since the virus started. The seating was spaced and there weren't many people there fortunately.
There was lots of memorabilia on the walls and hanging from the ceiling.

Back at the campground, one of the campers left and we had a peek-a-boo view of the bay in the distance, ha!!ha!!

We loved the cover this camper had for his motorcycle.

Our stay at Blue Angel came to an end and we moved to Lakeside RV Park in Livingston, Louisiana.  We will be here for nearly a month to visit Mom.  I(Sue) haven't seen her for 3 years and Bryan(2) as our visit last year got cancelled due to the virus.
There are a lot of bridges on the way to Louisiana.

We passed the USS Alabama at Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama

and then went through the tunnel

into Mississippi

Roads on stilts!! 😀
March 16th-31st, 2021
We visited with Mom, and Bryan fixed a few things and helped her around the house. Mom fed us well and we had a few take outs to save her cooking. Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures, I'm not sure why. I guess we were too busy catching up.

I managed to get most of the campgrounds booked for the rest of summer including monthly stays at two Pennsylvania campgrounds.  One is close to where we hope to see Elk again, the other is near to the place where the heroes brought the plane down and stopped the terrorists crashing a third plane into the capitol on 9-11.
We are also stopping at Gettysburg, on the way, to explore the battlefields there.
