We arrived at Little Creek, Norfolk, Virginia for a 5 week stay. We are here to visit Ryan, Christina, Trystan and the latest addition to our family Colton.
We unhooked the car so Bryan could reverse into our site. Unfortunately when we went to start the motorhome it wouldn't start. We needed a new battery. It was fortunate that the auto center was very close, so we went and bought a new battery. That did the trick. Bryan managed to get into our site but it was a tight fit and the trees were hanging very close to our roof.
Ryan, Christina, Trystan & Colton came to visit and we met Colton for the first time.
That cheered us up as we caught up and had lots of cuddles. It's good to be close by.
It started raining almost continuously and made the motorhome very dark inside. On top of this, our roof developed a leak and we couldn't access the roof because of the trees. We also couldn't get a satellite signal for our television.
There was an open site that had no trees and a clear view of the sky for our satelitte signal and after talking to our neighbor we decided we would ask if we could move there the next day.
The office in this campground is only open on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Our neighbor gave us the phone number and name of the manager who he said would be able to help us.
We tried calling numerous times to different numbers but there was no reply. So, we drove over to the office at a different location to see them.
I am not going to rehash the whole event, as I still am furious thinking about it but suffice to say we were told that we couldn't move, the site that was empty was reserved for emergencies and we were not considered one. We were not active duty so there was nothing they could do. They didn't even understand that we were here for 5 weeks. Eventually "Godzilla", which seems an appropriate name for her said we could move into the empty site for three days but NOT TO DARE to ask to stay there. We explained that it could take longer than that to repair the roof. The weather had to be good for 3 days in order to put two coats on and the weather forecast at the time was not good. In addition we had to find out where the leak was!!! We also had a problem with our air conditioner which we needed to get on the roof to fix. We had ordered a part for that prior to our arrival here.
We were fuming. The next day(Wednesday) we went to see the clerk in the office at our campground, who had been a party to the conversation with the manager. He told us he would see what was opening up when he assigned sites the following Monday and move us if he could but he wasn't going to "play musical Rv's". Talk about condescending and the customer definately doesn't matter here. We have NO desire to play musical sites but we do need to be able to access our roof and hopefully get a satellite signal. In the meantime we empty buckets and bowls of water from the leaking roof!!!
The open site remained open for the rest of the week. It was almost as though it was mocking us and the almost continuous rain and dark skies made us very depressed.
Ryan, Christina and the boys did come to visit and after we moved the motorhome forward a little Bryan & Ryan got on the roof and fixed the air conditioner. That did help as we now had cool air again. They looked for the leak but there was nothing obvious.
The following Monday we went to see the clerk here as he had instructed us to do. There were some open sites that would work for us but we didn't hold our breath. It amazes me that he can't think outside of the box and heaven help the place if there is a true emergency as he can only reconfigure sites on a Monday for the week!!!
So what happens.......he tells us we can move to the site that we asked to move to a week ago!!! The "Emergency" site that has been open all week!!! We couldn't believe it, we have been sitting in our morbid dark site all week looking at this empty site and getting more and more depressed, and now he was saying we could move into it!!! Ok, we bit our tongues, confirmed what he had told us and said thank you. I did make sure to confirm that we could stay there for the rest of our time here and he said yes. We walked out of there and were just speechless as we looked at each other!!!
We've never moved so fast and before you know it we're in our new site and happy. Now to wait for some clear days to hopefully look and fix the leak.
We put our awning out and Bryan had to fix a bracket on it. When he did that he noticed a hole under it and thought that may be where the water was coming in through the roof. He filled it in and sealed it. It didn't take long for the rain to start again but guess what, there were no leaks. The hole had been the problem, yay!!! Now, Bryan could finish resealing the roof and we would be good. It was such a relief!!
The site was much better for us and we had a satellite signal again. Now to just sit and relax and enjoy the rest of our stay.
We had our Covid Booster shots at the clinic here and our arms were sore for a couple of days and we felt a little tired but soon recovered.
