Reminiscing, San Diego, Family, Thanksgiving

November 2015

Since we have been camp hosting here at Santee Lakes we don't do very much of any interest to many of you apart from visiting with Ryan, Christina and Trystan.  So, I will not do a day by day blog but post when I have new pictures or an event to comment on.

November 1st, 2015

The snakes are getting closer.  A baby rattlesnake was found two sites away from us.  Those of you that know Bryan know he does not like snakes.  I don't like them that much either, but I will go in the reptile house at the zoo!!!  We are watching very carefully where we walk, especially when we are raking leaves in the sites.  They are very difficult to see as they blend in with the gravel/dirt in the sites.

I took these pictures while we were stopped at a traffic light near here today.  The sun was shining off the mountains and it was very pretty, although my pictures do not do it justice.

We have been having problems with our electrics and so arranged for a RV technician to come out and have a look.  They established that they think it's our inverter and took it away to test.  They connected us back to the electric post and said everything should work fine.

Ryan & Christina had some pictures taken in a local park with Trystan.

See the orb over Ryan
He's definitely not happy here!!!

November 5th, 2015
We were extremely cold last night as the batteries were dead and so we had no electrics.  Called the RV guys and they came back out and determined that we needed the converter hooked back up.  We had asked them about that yesterday and they told us it wasn't needed.  Sometimes you just have to wonder!!!  Anyway, once that was hooked up everything seemed to work fine.

This Christmas COMMERCIAL was filmed at the school I attended from age 11 until 16. Enfield County School in Enfield, Middlesex.  I think there have been some upgrades made to the interior since I was there but the exterior looks just the same.  Happy Days, although I didn't think so at the time!!!

Whilst I am thinking back in time - Remember, Remember the 5th of November.  One of my childhood memories is Guy Fawkes Night. In the weeks leading up to the 5th we would make a "Guy" by using old clothes and stuffing them with newspaper or straw or anything that would burn!!!  We then stood in the street with a "Penny for the Guy" sign to collect money to buy fireworks.  Mum & Dad bought fireworks and we made a bonfire in the back garden. On the night of the 5th, the"guy" was put on the top of the bonfire.  Baked potatoes would be put in the fire to cook, yummy!!!  The fire was lit and we stood and watched the "guy" burn and the fireworks would be lit.  We all had sparklers to hold.  Of course, it was nearly always cold, foggy and maybe raining. Shock, horror, shock!! can you imagine anything like it these days.  What fun we had though.  Wish I had some pictures but don't think I have.  I am hearing now, that a lot of the organized events which replaced the individual celebrations are being stopped due to health and safety, is that true??  For my American friends and family, here is a LINK with an explanation of it all.

Speaking of Enfield, where I grew up and lived between the ages of 1 and 21.  Here is a picture of Enfield Town taken in the late 60's. You can see the church where Mum & Dad got married in the top right corner and my secondary school was behind there.

I remember walking into the town with my cousin on Saturday's to buy eels for my grandfather from the fishmonger.  We would take it in turns to carry them home as they would still wriggle after the fishmonger had chopped them up.  Not that we could feel it but it was the thought of it. Thankfully never had to do anything with them just take them to Nan's.  My dad used to love jellied eels, ugh!!!!

Kai, our middle grandson, started school today in Wales.  He was 3 in July.  They start them earlier and earlier!!  He looks so smart and getting so big.
He has Ian's mischievous look here
Lovely pic of Kris & Kai

Six years ago today we bought Lily, our motorhome.  It was such an exciting day as we knew we could start planning for retirement and make her our full time home in the future.  That happened three years later.

We have adapted her a "little" to make her more comfortable for us and she certainly has the "lived" in
look now!!

I found this verse which sums up our life now.

November 8th, 2015

We remembered Bryan's dad as he passed away 5 years ago today.  We miss him and know that mom does too.  I'm sure he is watching over all of us.

November 9th, 2015

Trystan had his shots today and I went with Tinnie and held him for her while he got them.  He was very brave and just had a little cry but soon stopped.
After the doctor visit we went to San Diego Zoo.  We had a long walk around, up and down the hills and avoided the one rainstorm by sheltering in a gift shop.

I took a VIDEO  of an otter playing with a ball.  He made us laugh.  My other favorite, the sloth was asleep in his tree and there was no sign of the polar bears.

There were plenty of other animals though.  Here's a few of them.

oops, human animals!!!

November 10th, 2015

We went to the base at Miramar and did our food shopping.  We find it a lot easier to get here than San Diego and not so busy, so looks as though this will be our regular fortnightly food shopping place.
When we got back Bryan cleared up on our campsite again and restacked the wood.

November 11th, 2015

We went to the monthly volunteer luncheon here today.  They showed us a video of what they hope to do to the park in the future.  Very upscale but doesn't look as though there will be much done to the campgrounds although the amenities will be expanded and improved.  It looked quite futuristic, we will see.

A couple more pictures of Trystan.  He is changing so quickly.

November 13th, 2015

Trystan is 2 months old today.

November 14th, 2015

HaPpY HaPpY Birthday to Bryan's "baby" brother Patrick today.  Hope you had a great day.

We babysat Trystan and he stayed overnight so Ryan & Christina could have a date night.  He behaved very well and only woke up twice during the night.  I slept with him in the bedroom and Bryan slept in the living room.  I don't think either of us got much sleep as I kept looking at Trystan to make sure he was still breathing and Bryan was on the floor but it was great having him and being able to give mommy and daddy a break.

Here's a VIDEO showing him playing.

November 15th, 2015

After we all survived the night I did another short VIDEO saying good morning to mommy and daddy.

November 16th, 2015

Here's a short VIDEO Christina did of Ryan and Trystan having fun.  He is away on his ship a lot this month and so they have to make the most of their time together.

November 20th, 2015

We have the on call phone again for the next week.  Sure enough we got a call at midnight from someone complaining about their neighbors making a lot of noise.  Bryan went out to quieten them down.  It seems everyone waits for us to have the phone as the guy from last week told us again that he didn't get any calls.

Here's a picture of Trystan holding onto mom's arm!!!

November 22nd, 2015

We went and bought Bryan a new camera today for his birthday and Christmas.  We were going to get it on Black Friday but saw one for the same price advertised today and so decided to avoid the crowds and get it today.  Yay!!, so happy I don't have to go shopping on Thanksgiving!!!  We went to see Ryan & Christina and Trystan rolled over for us.  He is so clever, yes I am slightly biased but then again all our grandchildren are exceptional.

November 23rd, 2015

An inspector from the RV warranty company came out to inspect the inverter and make sure it wasn't working.  The technician had to come and put it back in yesterday.  It has taken all this while to get to this stage but fortunately the converter has been working fine and we haven't had any problems.  The inspector said it will take a couple of days for him to do his report and then we should find out if they will cover a repair or get us a new one.

While the inspector was here we heard a bird making loud noises and saw him in the tree above us.  I think it is a hawk but if anyone knows for sure what it is I'd be happy to know.  That's if you can make him out!!!

Here's a picture from our small garden at our site here.

We went to Miramar to get our turkey for thanksgiving.  It was crowded, I think everyone had the same idea.  We also got caught in the traffic coming home as we were later leaving, ugh!!!

I did get this picture outside the MCX though and there are very few people around.  They had just put the tree and decorations up.

November 25th, 2015

Here is an awesome VIDEO Christina compiled of Trystan pictures and short videos. It shows him rolling over!!!

November 26th, 2015

Thanksgiving Day - The park is closed today but Bryan volunteered for a 4 hour shift patrolling in the truck from 10am until 2pm. I prepared and cooked dinner while he did this.  He was quite busy, checking a couple of arrivals in and telling fishermen that they could only fish in the campground lakes not the other park lakes.  I went out with him for about an hour and he managed to take some pictures.  It was nice that the main park was empty.

We had Turkey Breast and all the fixings and Apple Pie and Ice Cream.  It's the first time I've actually cooked a Turkey in the RV and it turned out very well.  Have to be organized in such a small space and it helped that there was only two of us.

Ryan, Christina and Trystan went to her sisters and we were invited but knew we had to work and decided we would have a quiet day just the two of us.  They did Skype with us though, which was nice.

November 27th, 2015

Look at this lovely picture of Trystan.

We gave the duty phone to the next person on the list.  We ended up having 4 calls during the week.  One was because a coyote attacked a campers dog and they were at the vet and wanted us to check their site.  Bryan went and looked, they were in a tent and it looked ok.  We found out that their dog got out in the night and that's when the coyote attacked it.  Thankfully, the dog survived and is ok.  Campers are warned about the coyotes and rattlesnakes here.  One night when Bryan went out I was watching for him to come back and saw two coyotes running along the road in front of our camp sites.

The Davis Cup Tennis Finals are this weekend.  Great Britain are playing Belgium in Belgium and so I am getting up early to watch the matches.  GB haven't been in the final since the 70's and haven't won since 1936.

I found out that my name was one of the two thousand chosen to appear on the teams official GB tracksuit. It is in the 15th row up from the bottom.  I feel very honored to be a part of this tennis history.

Kyle Edmund played in his first Davis Cup rubber (match) against David Goffin and wasn't expected to win but played an outstanding match, winning the first two sets against the experienced Goffin before losing the next three.  Not a bad first appearance and in the finals.  Have followed him for quite a while and he is an excellent young player.  One to watch that's for sure.
Andy Murray played the second rubber and won, as he was expected to do.  In reality he has to win all his three rubbers for us to stand a chance of winning.  So we finished day one at 1 rubber (match) all.  Everything to play for tomorrow in the doubles when Andy will partner his brother Jaimie, who is an experienced doubles player.

November 28th, 2015

Up early again to watch the Davis Cup.  The Murray Brothers won their doubles rubber to put us 2-1 up.  Andy just has to win his rubber against David Goffin tomorrow for us to win the cup.  He is more than capable of doing this and must be the favorite as he is ranked #2 against Goffins #14 but considering the enormity of the match there are bound to be nerves on both sides.

I snapped a picture that was shown on the TV during the match of one of my Facebook tennis friends.  The forum that I am a member of go as a group to all the Davis Cup matches and if I had been in the UK I'm sure I would have joined them, although tickets were hard to come by.  They have such a great time.

Went to Ryan & Christina's to help them decorate their Christmas tree.

He started facing Grandpa and then moved around a half circle!!!
Happy Family

The finished tree, very pretty

Bryan's birthday today.  Happy Birthday to my handsome husband.  We had quite a few sites to clean today so were busy this morning.  Here's a picture taken of him in 1988 in Over Norton, UK.  I think he looks a lot like Ryan.

Ryan, Christina and Trystan came over to spend some time with us before we went to Stuart Andersons Steak House for Bryan's birthday dinner.  We had a lovely meal there and they had told the waitress it was Bryans birthday and so he got the birthday song and cake.  He was a little embarrassed by the attention but we had a lovely evening.
For comparison, Ryan as a baby
Happy Birthday Grandpa

At the restaurant
I got up early again to watch Davis Cup and Andy Murray won and the cup was ours.  Truly an amazing moment, winners again after 79 years!!!  I was so excited and happy.  As a tennis fan it truly was a historic moment.  If I still lived in the UK there is no doubt I would have been there with my Andy Murray Fan Forum friends but such is life and I am here in sunny San Diego and still able to cheer along in my little house on wheels.  Life is good. A VIDEO of them celebrating after the victory.

November 30th, 2015

My brother sent me a picture of Mum's rose bush that they bought for her.  It has its first rose.  I think this is unusual for England for a rose to bloom in November but here it is.  Mum is looking after it.

Well, the last day of the month is here again.  Nearly another year behind us.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and you all have a Merry Christmas.
In case I don't get on here before next year, Happy New Year as well!!!!
