Summer of 21 - #40 - Old Bedford Village

 July 16th, 2021

Today we went for a road trip to visit the Old Bedford Village in Bedford, Pennsylvania. To read more about it click HERE.

Welcome Center

We walked through the welcome center, past a pond, to the village behind.

It was very pretty and can you see what's sitting on the end of the log?

A turtle was posing for us. This alone made my day. 😀

There is an interactive map online that explains each house/building in detail. I found it interesting.
I've copied informational pictures from there into the blog. All pictures similar to the one below are courtesy of oldbedfordvillage.com.

Biddle House

Each house was numbered

We went into the Biddle House and there was a lady in period costume who gave us a detailed history of the cottage and its owners. The room below used to be two rooms. Can you spot the lady guide sitting down?

I loved the Hope Vine growing outside.

There were some old games in this area for children or adults to play. Of course we are old enough to remember them. Well I don't actually remember hoop rolling but we used to have Hula Hoop with plastic hoops.

Hobby Horses were good fun.

I was a little surprised that these games were still available during covid.

I wonder how many try these out!!

Christ Church

It was a lovely church and would be nice for a small intimate wedding.

There was a wishing well outside the church.

There was a time capsule from 1976 to be opened in 2076.

Side of Tavern

We used the tavern as an excuse for a short break. We were the only ones in there, it was a hot day and we were starting to wilt!!!!  Unfortunately the food and drinks that are usually available to purchase, were not available due to covid. A nice cold beer would have gone done a treat.

Oh well, water will have to do!!! Yo!! Ho!! Ho!!

Hmmm

General Store

You could buy candy and treats in the General Store. There was no one in there but there was a honesty jar for you to pay for what you took. That's a novelty these days. I'm guessing most people are honest but I'd be surprised if no one ever took any money or all the money out of the jar. There may be cameras I don't know.  We didn't see anything we wanted, so we passed on the candy.

We didn't walk to or get pictures of the Old Bedford Village Press. 😔 In fact by this time we were both truly exhausted.  The heat had got to us. We just started taking pictures and not really paying attention to what was inside the buildings.

I did notice that the child in the picture below was being shown how to do pictures on tin. That was quite awesome.

We didn't get any pictures of the Village Broom Shop.

We finally finished our walk around, it was quite interesting but it was a shame the heat got to us and slowed us down considerably.

We walked back past the pond. I saw some dragonflies and tried Trystan's trick of getting one to sit on my finger but no, I'm not a dragonfly whisperer. They wanted nothing to do with me. He will have to teach me!!!!

That was an interesting visit.  There was a Dennys close by so we decided to get something to eat, and cool off. We haven't eaten out since this virus started, well over a year ago, so it was a little strange for us but we survived.

On the way home we saw this bird house. It was kinda cool.

Well that's it for today.  Sorry it's a bit long but I wanted to show you all the old buildings in the recreated village.
