Summer of 19 - #25 - Falls Park on the Reddy, Greenville, South Carolina

Friday September 27th, 2019 - Part 1 of 2
I have split the blog into 2 posts as there are a lot of pictures from two locations.
We started off the day by putting the bug bombs in Lily, and setting them off as we left.  We hadn't gone far down the road when Bryan realized he had left his camera behind, so we turned around and went back.  Unfortunately that meant he had to go back in Lily with the bug bombs going at full pelt!!!  He was in and out as quick as a flash, and still noticed that there were 3 dead bugs at least, on the floor.  Good, it seems to be working.

We decided to go to Falls Park on the Reddy in downtown Greenville, South Carolina.  We don't really like going into big towns, preferring the country settings much more, but we thought we'd try this as they have made a park around the falls on the Reddy river in town.
It didn't start off well, as the place I had planned on parking was in the middle of roadworks and was no longer there. Did I mention, I hate finding places to park in towns, that are close to where we want to visit. After driving around a bit, we found a parking place in a private car park, after we asked a gentleman who was there if we could park there. After some "ummimg" and "aaahing" he agreed, and went in to advise them that he had given us permission to park.  I asked him where the Falls Park was and he wasn't sure but we managed to find it, after I led Bryan in the wrong direction originally and he asked someone else.

In the picture above you can see the pedestrian Liberty Bridge.  This bridge replaced a six lane highway bridge that was demolished to make visibility and accessibility to the park better.

We started by walking over the bridge which gave us an outstanding view of the falls.

There was a woman with her toes in the water at the top of the falls.

When I zoomed in just behind where the woman was sitting in the picture above, there was a flock of Canadian Geese and a weir.

As we walked across the bridge we could see different angles of the falls.

When we got to the other side there was more information.  The area is still in the process of being renovated and was boarded off, so we couldn't go directly onto the street from here.  I realized this was where I had intended for us to park and was the reason we couldn't access the area.

I liked this entrance sign better
but not this sculpture.  A little too modern for me I think.
We debated whether to walk along the river on this side, but decided against it, and walked back across the bridge.  This enabled us to walk along the riverbank, closer to the falls, on that side.

On the other side of Liberty Bridge from the falls was the runoff and river meandering through the park.  There were a couple of small sandy areas where you could walk down to.

After crossing back over the bridge we walked along the path by the waterfalls and closer to the geese.

The Reedy River was named after the reeds that grew along its banks

We walked underneath the bridge to the other side of the bank where the river curved around a bend.

There were a lot of opportunities to sit and take a break.  I would imagine if you work near here, it would be a lovely place to come and sit and eat your lunch.

The gardens were lovely, with a variety of plants and flowers.

Once back out on the street, I took this picture showing where we were.

Walking back to the car, I noticed this cloud ahead.  I thought it looked like a bird and Bryan said a chicken.  Hmmm yes.  When I enlarge it though, I can also see a face on the right hand side and with the hair around it, reminds me a bit of Ken Dodd. Not sure if my American family and friends will know who that is. Yes, I'm a little crazy.

We drove out of Greenville and on to our next stop which hopefully will be a little quieter and easier to park.  I'll tell you about that in the next blog..........
