Summer of 23 - UK Tour - Minack Theater, Cornwall

 Wednesday June 7th, 2023 - Part 1 of 2 - Minack Theater

Today we went on a road trip to Lands End, the most southernness point in England. Next month, we have plans to go to John O'Groats in Scotland, the most northern point in the UK.

However, we started with a stop at the The Minack Theatre. This amazing open-air theatre was created in the thirties.

"If you'd been here in 1931, standing where our stage is now, you'd have been clinging to a sloping cliff, knee deep in gorse, with a ninety-foot drop to the sea behind you."

It is a beautiful place that takes your breath away. Rowena Cade seems to have created the impossible.  An open-air theatre perched on a cliff.

We were told when we arrived that there were no performances today, which we knew, but there was a rehearsal going on. So, we did get to hear some music in this open air auditorium. The weather was beautiful, although a little cold. The sun was shining, which seemed to bring all the colors in the plants alive.

Our first view

Porthcurno Beach in the distance

and closer.

You could see and hear the waves crashing on the rocks below.

The flowers and setting are beautiful.

There are grass seats, which give the feeling of sitting in a park on the grass, but the grass is like the seat of a bench. More comfortable for us older people and easier to get up from!!😂 Although no backs!! It also looks very natural.

Rehearsals taking place

Beautiful colors

Me taking a picture!!

Higher up and further from the stage is concrete seating with backs, but probably need a cushion? I'm never satisfied.....😉

Waiting for their turn!!

Beautiful!!

Bryan having a well deserved rest

I loved the theater, especially the colors, and the ingenuity of the design and creativeness.

Next stop was Land's End and the most southernmost point of the UK.
