San Diego after the wedding and flying home

March 8th, 2014

We went to the Waffle place for breakfast again.  Unfortunately it was a different chef and the gravy wasn't as good as before so Bryan was disappointed.  We drove through Downtown El Cajon.

Bryan's knee was really hurting, so I suggested driving out to North Island Naval base on Coronado Island to show Brenda the beaches and cottages there.  We drove out and looked in the NEX there.  Bryan used one of the electric shopping carts for getting around to save his knee.  This was the first time he has used one of these and he took some persuading but I think it helped him get around and saved his knee.  We drove up to the cottages and beaches but didn't get out.
Then we drove through Coronado Old Town and Silver Strand.  We checked out Fiddler Cove Marina & RV Park  which is a military campground that has just been renovated.  They have done a nice job there, it was quite a dump the last time we looked.

We stopped at the NEX at San Diego and then headed back to the hotel.  On the way we stopped for dinner at Anthonys Lakeside Fish Grotto.  It was a nice relaxing meal.  They have an outside dog dining area, so you can take your dog with you if you want to.

We got back to the hotel and rested.

We went to Dennys for breakfast and then waited with Brenda for her friend to show up and take her to visit with him and his family. We went out and got Subway sandwiches and some snacks and then stayed in and watched Nascar.

We went and got Brenda from her friends and came back to the hotel so she could wait until it was time   for us to take her to the airport for her flight home.  Bryan took Brenda to the airport while I stayed behind as my stomach was not feeling good.  We went to Ryan & Christina's in the evening and watched movies.

We met with Ryan for breakfast and hung out with him for a while until Christina came home from work.  We sat and chatted for a while, did our laundry and then went back to our room to get ready to go out for our meal tonight.  Ryan, Christina, Bryan & I took Roger & Cindy out for a meal to thank them for the food they had done for Ryan & Christina's reception.  We had a lovely chat and meal.  We got back to the kids and looked for somewhere for them to rent to live so they can have their own space.  Here we are busy searching.

We went to breakfast with Ryan and then went to Christina's work to say a quick goodbye to her.  She was very busy, poor girl!!  All too soon it was time to go and we said our goodbyes to Ryan.  There were no tears this time as I know he has someone he loves who will look after him.  I will naturally worry when he goes to sea next month but that is his life and he enjoys it, although I know he is not looking forward to being separated from his new wife.  Little did we know that we would see him again!!!
We headed to the airport, we had to go out of our way a little searching for a gas station to fill up the rental car and after we had done that and were close to returning the rental car Bryan noticed Ryan.  He drove up beside us at a light and we waved.  He told us he was going to get his marriage certificate as it was ready and was surprised it had taken us so long to get where we were.  What are the chances of being in the same place, at the same time on a busy San Diego street and neither of us knowing the other would be there. I got to see my baby smiling again before we left.  :)

We took the car back and got the shuttle to the airport.  As we were waiting to check in one of the representatives asked if Bryan wanted a wheelchair, he said no. We  got the blue sleeve for priority boarding and waited for our flight.  When they were going to start boarding we stood in line.  Someone came up in a wheelchair behind us, their companion walked in front of us and they decided to allow her on before us.  As it happened that meant that when we boarded there was only one seat left in the front row so Bryan got that and I sat behind him.  I was ok as we both had window seats and I had a table but I had been ready to argue if that front seat had not been available for him to stretch his leg.  Unfortunately, I think it means we need to get a wheelchair for him in future.  Everyone just assumes that if you're in a wheelchair you're much more needy than if not, so it doesn't pay to try and be mobile in these cases.  Don't get me wrong, I am more than willing to sit anywhere in the plane if there is someone more needy than myself for those front rows but the companion with the lady in the wheelchair obviously wasn't and they were all walking around freely so don't really see why there was a need to push in front!!!  I could have been sitting next to my beloved for the whole flight if they had boarded in the correct order and the other ladies companion could have sat behind her!!! One benefit was that I took some pictures out of my window as we took off from San Diego.
San Diego airport is right next to the ocean

Love the fluffy clouds, like candy floss

Love being above the clouds

and as we were flying over Georgetown, Texas and we waved to Kathy & Johnny!!

They got off when we reached Houston and so I moved to the front next to Bryan.  The seats on this plane were smaller than normal.  Bryan said it was a new plane but it was rather cramped.  I'm just glad that I'm not too overweight.  In the front row we couldn't lift the arm up between the two of us either, as we normally do, as it was fixed.
We landed in Orlando and got the shuttle back to our car in the car park.  It is always a relief to see the car is there and start it up after being away for a while. I would definitely use the airport car park and shuttle again, it was very quick and efficient.
We got to the hotel at about midnight and went to bed.
