May 6th, 2021-Part 1
Today was a Civil War day. We set off to tour a civil war battlefield in New Market, Virginia.
We saw this sign above the road ahead of us. To our left was the building above with a sign near the road saying "Get your tickets here" so in we went
We went into the building. The lady in there welcomed us and told us the tickets were $12 each. This should have been my first clue that this wasn't the right place as I thought the tickets were $10 but maybe the price had gone up. We paid our fee and she started to tell us about the museum. There was no mention of a walking/driving tour which I had expected. I asked her about those and she said there wasn't any, it was a tour of the museum only.
We started our tour. There were a lot of interesting exhibits as we made our way around. I had left my camera at home so was a little sad that I couldn't take pictures but Bryan took plenty for me. I had a nagging feeling that we were missing something and I looked at my phone. Sure enough there was a park somewhere here that had battlefield tours and a museum that cost $10. We were the only ones touring this place and so I sat and spoke to Bryan and showed him what I had found. We weren't happy and discussed what to do. There was a lot of cool stuff here so we decided to just "suck it up buttercup" and try and find the other place when we left here.
There were a lot of interesting artifacts here. I wish I had paid more attention to some of them but unfortunately I was preoccupied with the fact that this wasn't what I came to see. I probably missed a lot!!
A gentleman had joined the lady in the front and as we were leaving they asked us if we had any questions. Hmmmm....... I told them they had a lot of interesting things here in the museum and I asked again if they knew where the battlefield tour was. The lady answered saying, that as she told me before, she didn't as there were many different places and they were unaware of what was offered where. 😡
I told Bryan we would just try and find the other place. Stay tuned for the next blog to see if we were successful...........
