Summer of 21 - #29 - Moving On, Campgrounds & Campground Life

May 18th, 2021 - May 22nd, 2021

In between all the sightseeing we did while staying at Gettysburg Campground, we managed to get new tires(shoes๐Ÿ˜‰) for Lily. We found someone who would come out to the campground, take our old tires off, leave the motorhome up on jacks, go back to their shop to mount the new tires on our rims and balance them. Then come back and put the new tires on Lily.

This meant we didn't have to pack everything up and worked really well. We were able to stay in the motorhome while all this was going on, although Bryan did go outside with them to watch and take some pictures.

Here's a close up

Eek, no tires.

Here's the other side

Here's their truck
It took about 3 to 4 hours and they came back and mounted the new tires.  We stayed in the motorhome and you wouldn't even have known there were no tires on it.  Our jacks that are always down when we are parked, and their jacks that they used, did their job and we carried on as normal with no tires. ๐Ÿ˜€

We got 6 new tires, balanced and fitted for just over $3,500.  However there was a special they were running that gave us a rebate of nearly $300 in the form of a Visa card. This was actually cheaper than when we got new tires at the start of our adventure 8 years ago.  The old tires had lasted well and Lily is happy she has new shoes, Ha!!Ha!!

We went out to stock our food supplies before we leave for our next stop as we won't be that close to a supermarket.

Back through the covered bridge that we have seen quite a bit of in the last two weeks.

Going through

Beautiful scenery here, so green, reminds me of England.

The campground is not bad, although very busy at weekends as there are a lot of amenities. Also, the site we are in is set up so our door faces our neighbors door.   This is great for friends but can be a pain if you get inconsiderate neighbors. We had a variety of neighbors over the two weeks we were here, and most were nice and friendly.  The picture below shows the space we had to share. You can't tell from this but we did get pushed over a bit and it felt a little cramped. Fortunately they were only here about 3 days and we were out a lot, and didn't use our side very much, although Bryan did go out and read most nights.

We went for a walk around the campground and took some pictures.

Footpaths through the woods

Campsites on the stream but they weren't full hookups

We had a nice stay and would stay here again if in the area but we are exhausted from all the trips we have done in the two weeks we have been here.

May 23rd, 2021

We packed up and headed north to Fantasy Island Campground.  We will be here for two nights as it is really just a stopping point between locations.

We are looking forward to some downtime, although we have some driving to do before we can relax for a while.

It was a pretty drive, but wait, what's that? We're not in New York!!!  An imitation Statue of Liberty in the lake.  This started as a prank, which no one owned up to. The locals in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania grew fond of it and when the original, which was made of plywood and venetian blinds, was blown off its pedestal they raised money to replace it with a bigger sturdier version. Click this LINK to read the story.

We drove alongside the Susquehanna River for most of the drive.  It was beautiful.

Even the cliffs were lovely.

Our campground is over there

We arrived and got parked in our site. Now when we arrived there were boats and trailers blocking the slip in front of us. The lady in the camper opposite us offered to move her vehicles so we could reverse in but Bryan managed to maneuver into our spot without her having to. Not long after everything cleared and we have a clear view of the river, although there is a main road just to the left of us hidden behind a bank and bushes.  We will see if the noise keeps us awake at night.

I thoroughly enjoyed todays drive.  I don't get to say that very often as moving days are usually stressful for me, but the views today totally compensated for any stress that I sometimes get from being a passenger. Don't get me wrong, my stress doesn't come from Bryan's driving. He is an exceptional driver when it comes to the motorhome.  I don't know how he does it. My stress comes from not knowing what is around the corner, while being in a 38ft. long motorhome towing a 20ft. car. We can't reverse, so if we make a wrong turn and can't correct it we have to disconnect the car.  Now, we may be blocking traffic at this time, there is just no telling.
The good news is, in 8 years, it has only happened twice.
The first time, our GPS directed us on a road that was a dead end and there wasn't enough room to turn around without disconnecting the car so Bryan could do a three way turn in the motorhome. Fortunately we saw no other cars on this road, so were not rushed.
The second time, we missed our turn into Charlotte Speedway and tried to use a turning lane to do a u-turn across a dual carriageway.  Unfortunately the road wasn't wide enough and we blocked traffic. We've never moved so fast in our lives and made a record time disconnecting the car from the motorhome so Bryan could reverse and maneuver the motorhome around the turn. I then followed him to the speedway.  Everyone was very patient, no one blew their horns for which I was thankful. Our team work paid off as we both have our jobs when we disconnect and connect the car when we're moving campground, so we just did the same except in fast motion.

Today was a rest day but we did walk around the campground and take pictures.

There we are on the end of the row. No one else in our row.

The road behind us didn't keep us awake, so that was a good thing. Not a bad campground for a couple of days. Tomorrow we head further north to our next campground, where we will be for two weeks and we plan on relaxing and not doing much. See how that turns out in the next blog!!
