Daytona - Day 3 - Exploring, Practices and Duel 150's

Thursday February 20th, 2014

Happy, Happy birthday to Bryan's mom today.  Glad we managed to get you on Skype, we weren't sure we would be able to here.

We stopped the water truck to get our tank filled up.  It was taking a long while and the guy said that it must be full and our gauges weren't working, so we paid him the $40 which was the cost.

We then got the tram to the midway so we could get a Kevin Harvick t-shirt and hat for Bryan and have a look around.  We had our picture taken with the Sprint Cup Trophy which is the championship trophy.  It was quite hot, so shorts and sunhat were needed!!
We saw the Budweiser Clydesdale horses as well, but I was a little upset because they were in individual wire enclosures that were just barely big enough for them.  I guess they could probably turn around if they tried.  I have gone off those cute commercials now!!  One of my friends, Missy Kay, thought maybe it was temporary conditions due to the loud noises at the racetrack and to stop them from jumping and injuring themselves. Thanks for trying to make me feel better.  I looked but I can't find any information on this but hopefully this is a plausible reason.

This Ford Raptor had been painted to honor the Navy Seals, it was an amazing sight.
Outside the front building is a statue of Dale Earnhardt Sr.  It is a very nice statue and a good likeness.

Bryan and his hero
This is the sign over the roadway near the entrance to the speedway.
We walked along to the Budweiser Club where Kevin Harvick was supposed to make an appearance and found out that it cost $300 each to get into this fundraiser and that Kevin had cancelled. Budweiser are not in our good books today!!!
We managed to get a shuttle back to the infield.  As we walked back a fifth wheel had arrived to join us in our row. Unfortunately, there were a row of cars parked in his spot and other spots. Later, a tow truck came out and moved them.  I think the owners were lucky they didn't get towed away.

I let Bryan take my Union Jack down so he could fly his new Kevin Harvick flag.

There were practices today for the Nationwide and the Truck Series and the Budweiser Duel 150's , qualifying races for the 500, were tonight.

We watched the Duel's from the top of the motorhome.
The satellite dish got in the way
HERE are the results.  Harvick was second in the first duel and we were excited but his car didn't pass the post-race inspection and he was moved to the 24th spot.  So he will start the 500 toward the back of the pack.
