Ships & Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary

April 24th, 2014

We stayed in today and watched the ships go sailing by.
This was a smaller cruise line

Then we saw Carnival Fascination coming along.

The barrier into the Navy docks was open and the Pelicans were sitting on it.

We saw the US Coastguard ship going into the Navy Docks today.  We see it coming and going most days.

We decided to go to the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary for their evening feeding tour.  It was the #1 choice on Tripadvisor of things to do here.  Bryan loves tigers so I thought we would enjoy it and the reviews were good.  We got there when it opened and had a 45 minute tour where we were introduced to all the animals.  They are all rescued or donated to the sanctuary, usually from zoos or private collectors who can no longer care for them or get closed down.  We got to see them all very close up as it was getting near to feeding time. The reviews said the evening feeding time was the best time to go as they are nocturnal animals that wake up in the evening.  This proved to be true as we walked around they were getting more and more active.
The sanctuary is run by volunteers, one of them painted this mural.

When we first started going around most of the cats were sleeping.

 Then they started waking up.

Then as it got nearer to dinner time they became more active.
This tiger had unusual rare markings
This one was thirsty
This one had an identity crisis!!!!
This lion was one of the older inhabitants
This white tiger was enjoying his pool
Another white tiger was playing with his ball in his pool
Then it was feeding time.  I had read that the roars at feeding time were deafening and I was a little disappointed when there were only a couple of roars to be heard.

We can't remember what this was.

Here are some short videos showing the cats playing and eating.

All of the animals here were born somewhere in captivity, none of them came from the wild and they stay here for the rest of their lives.  They are never sold or given to anyone else.

The animals seem to be happy here and the volunteers love their jobs.
