Visa, a Military Hotel at Disneyworld & Pelican Roost RV Park, Mayport, Fl.

April 15th, 2014

We didn't get up very early as we didn't get to bed until 4:00am and took it slowly getting going but eventually we were ready to head to the immigration office about 1:45pm.   It was about 40 minutes away in the traffic, much better than 8 hours!!!  When we got there it didn't seem too busy and they agreed I could wait as a walk-in.   I filled in the necessary paperwork and waited about 20 minutes until they called me.  They were very nice, took my picture and fingerprints and I was ready to go. That's that for another 10 years. As he was finishing the fingerprints he told me it was going to rain at any minute.  I had been watching as torrential rain and wind had been forecast but it seemed to be worse north of us.  Anyway as we left the office the heavens opened.  Torrential was not the word.  We got drenched running to the car which was only about 20 feet from the office!!!  We drove very slowly along with everyone else and at one point you couldn't see far in front of you but before long it eased up and visibility was normal again.  In fact the sun came out and so when we were nearly home we filled up the gas tank and did a little shopping.
Bryan noticed Ryan was on skype and he was chatting with Christina so we didn't talk long but found out he had a couple of days liberty.  He had been swimming with Whale Sharks and had enjoyed that.

Today we went to look at the military hotel that is here at Disneyworld.  Shades of Green is very nice and close to all the Disney attractions.  You can get a shuttle to the parks and early entrance, just as if you were at a Disney park. There really are some amazing perks travelwise from being military and everyone should try and take advantage of them if they are eligible.  A lot of the parks that we will be staying in going up the East coast will be military.  They are usually a lot cheaper than regular parks.  This hotel reminded us of the one we stayed at in Honolulu, although there was no beach. Here are some pictures.

I didn't get any pictures of the pool but there was a nice one here and three restaurants as well that were reasonably priced.

We hope to come back in a couple of years and stay here.

Stayed at home today getting ready to leave tomorrow for Pelican Roost RV Park at Mayport, Florida which is close to Jacksonville.  I booked a Dark of the Moon tour of St. Augustine Lighthouse for Bryan for the 27th April.  It is a ghost tour that starts at 8:30pm.  I am not going, not really my thing but think he will enjoy it.  St.Augustines Lighthouse has been featured on Ghosthunters and was one of their most popular episodes.  I saw it and it was quite creepy.  Definitely not for me.

Got on the road relatively early for us at 10:00am as we wanted to try and miss the rain and thunderstorms that were forecast as much as possible.  We did quite well and stopped for lunch at a rest stop at 12:25pm with no rain so far.  Unfortunately soon after we left at 12:50pm the rain started.  It wasn't too bad at first but got heavier.  Our windscreen wiper on the passenger side stopped working again.  It was fine at first but then just stopped.  We also have a small leak under the passenger dashboard so we will have to investigate that.  We arrived safely at Pelican Roost about 2:30pm and got set up.  This is one of the military campgrounds I was mentioning earlier. We have a waterfront site and a great view of the St. John River and the Navy Docks.  I took these pictures from inside the motorhome.  The ships remind us of Ryan.  It is a good reminder.

We went for a quick walk in between showers and Bryan looked for a fishing spot.

You can see the North Jetty sea wall in the background in this picture and we could see the Atlantic ocean waves crashing above the wall.  We have already seen lots of ships and tankers going by.  This is the coastguard. This will be a fascinating couple of weeks.

We picked our first tomatoes from our plant today.  They tasted so good.
Well that's it for now.  Hope everyone has a Happy Easter weekend. Take Care.
