Summer of 18-#32-Homestead Dam,Butterflies, and Memories.........

Thursday August 2nd, 2018
Andy Murray returned to play at Washington, DC.  and I watched him win his first two matches, the second of which was against Kyle Edmund.  Why do the Brits always seem to get drawn against each other early in the tournament, aargh!!!  Both matches went to three sets.  Rain delayed tonight's match and Andy didn't start until about midnight!!!!  I was still watching 3 hours later as he won 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.  It was a hard fought match with both players giving it their all.  It was exhausting to watch let alone play, but it was Andy's emotional response that really made you feel for him.  Here's a VIDEO of the final points and the win.  The gut wrenching sobs at the end really hit you, and you just want to give him a hug. You are a champ Andy, and I love you.

Friday August 3rd - Monday August 6th, 2018
After the Andy emotions, of the previous night, my Facebook page showed a memory from August 3rd, 2010.  It was a picture that I posted, that had been taken the previous day, of me meeting Andy at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles.  So, 8 years to the day, prior to his emotional breakdown, I had my arm around him.  How cool is that!!!  I know, nobody really cares apart from me and that's ok. Bryan was there with me, and encouraged me to ask for the picture or it wouldn't have happened. Thanks Bry!!! xx

Andy withdrew from the Washington tournament and I don't blame him.  He had three long matches and he has to watch his body as he returns from hip surgery.  I've had a wonderful few days watching him play, and I hope his body can recover.  Part of me wondered if the tears were relief that he won a hard fought game and he knows he's back, or whether he realized that his body just couldn't compete day after day in tournaments.  He also withdrew from Montreal and hopes to be ready for Cincinnati. Time will tell.

We didn't go out over the weekend, just stayed in watching sports and writing blogs.

After staying in for a few days we needed to get out of the house.  There is a small dam close by so we went to see it.
Homestead Dam is a small dam/waterfall that apparently is a good fishing spot and place to see salmon jump in September.  We were a little early for the salmon jumping which was a shame, and there were no fishermen there, which could have been because it was lunchtime and in the week.  Anyway, it made for a nice quite walk and some good scenery.
Loved the way the plants were growing on the log

We saw this shedded snakeskin.  It made me more aware that they were snakes here, and so I was extra careful where I stepped from then on.

This butterfly came to see me, fluttering by me before landing.  I think it is a Red-Spotted Purple Butterfly.  It was beautiful and stayed on the ground long enough for Bryan to catch up with me and get some good pictures.  Mine were blurry as usual!!
Blue spots on the top and orange on the underneath.
This path lead through the forest and we could have walked through there but we didn't.  I was a little apprehensive after seeing the snakeskin.

We continued walking on the dirt/gravel path and nearly stepped on these four butterflies. One of them could have been the one I saw a few minutes before.  I'm not sure if they were mating, feeding, laying eggs or jut partying!!!  I don't think laying eggs, as it was on the ground, in the center of the walkway, and not really a good enough plant for a caterpillar to hatch and survive. I read that they usually mate at the time of day that we were there, but one to two meters off the ground. Maybe they're all girls and were feeding and just hanging out. They were there for a long while as we stood and watched them.  Eventually we had to walk by, and although we went around them as slowly as we could, three of them flew away, followed by the fourth after we had passed.

Ok, it took me about 45 minutes to find out about the butterfly and what type it was, and then read about it's habits.  That's why this blog takes me so long to write, ha!!ha!!

Nice trails through the forest, and flowers that we passed on the way back to the car.

We stayed in today, I wrote blogs and got distracted by a Facebook post that got me looking at the cottage Bryan rented soon after he got to England.
It was in Over Norton, Oxfordshire.  Here's a LINK to Google Maps where I've zoomed in on the cottage down the small lane.  If you zoom back out you can look at the houses around.  It has changed, there used to be a post office and phone box by the main road you can see, and we would walk up there for our Sunday paper and if we needed to phone anyone.
We spent many happy days there and I think it's one of the best places I have ever lived.  Of course, I only stayed at weekends and so maybe I didn't get a full perspective of living there.  We had no telephone, it was before internet and cellphones.  The cows would come up to the kitchen window when we cooked bacon on a Sunday morning.  We walked into the fields behind us and into town to get fish and chips.  It was awesome.

Google Maps picture from 2011.  It's down behind the blue car.

Bryan mowing the lawn with a little help from his friends and giving me a not so nice hand signal!!  I'm sure I had made a smart remark!!!

His truck that was shipped over from USA

His bike that he bought over there, and used to ride back and forth to work, on the country lanes.

Well, that was me off on a tangent.  It's good to reminisce though.

Tomorrow we have another two lighthouses, the last ones for this area.

Thanks for following along.
