Summer of 18-#34-Charlevoix, Petoskey, Sunset & New Friends on an anniversary

Sunday August 12th, 2018

Today was moving day and we were heading further north to Petoskey.  I took some pictures along the way.

Beautiful drive, yet again
We were getting low on propane, which is what we use to cook, and heat our furnace.  We can use it for the hot water as well, but usually use electric for that.  Most of the places were closed as it was Sunday, but eventually we found a gas(petrol) station where we saw a tank.  Bryan went in and fortunately there was someone there that could fill it up for us. One less thing to worry about for a while.  We last filled up in Louisiana at the beginning of May, so 3 months on a tank, that's not bad.   Look at the name on the propane tank. Maybe we can claim Ireland on our travels now, what do you think?

We saw this parachutist coming down to land.

Charlevoix looked interesting and beautiful as we drove through, although quite busy and maybe a bit touristy!!!!

On the way to Petoskey.

We arrived at Magnus Park Campground.  It was a little tight getting the motorhome into her spot and after several attempts we couldn't get a satellite signal, and only 4 over the air channels.  We will have to rely on streaming on our laptops for programs.  Fortunately, we have an internet signal.  We will be in this site for 3 nights and then move to the front row, where hopefully we will get a satellite signal, as it is the trees and hospital building behind us that is blocking it.  Our view is still quite decent though.
View out of our front window.

We walked down to throw our trash away and watched the sunset on the beach in front of us.  It was a wonderful sunset on our first night.

A log in the water
We looked for Petoskey Stones but didn't find any. 😔

We zoomed in on the Petoskey Lighthouse that we will go and see while we are here.

We arranged to meet up with a Facebook friend that I met through one of my Brit sites.  Her & her husband invited us over to dinner but before that Jan came and met us, and took us for a tour of the area.  She bought me some flowers and chocolate hobnobs, which was a lovely thought. It was good to meet her and she drove us all around the area.

We looked around this housing development.  There were some nice houses in there on the water.

Then into Charlevoix, the cute town we had driven through on our way here.  We stopped to see the lighthouse there.

There was a yacht there waiting for the bridge to be raised so it could go through.

We stopped and had lunch in a local bar/restaurant, which was quite good.

We continued back toward Petoskey via Boyne City, and through some beautiful areas.  It was lovely to get a locals perspective of the area, although Jan and I were chatting so much I missed some of the views I'm sure!!!  That's what happens when you get two Brits together!!

We went back to her house for dinner, where her husband Chris barbecued Spatchcock Chicken, and we had potato salad, salad & fixings. Yummy!!  I made a strawberry trifle.  We sat and talked out in their back garden, which backs onto their land.  They have chickens and ducks as well as two lovely dogs.  We had a lovely time chatting and getting to know each other and I'm sure we'll try and meet up again.  Unfortunately, we forgot to take any pictures. Shame on us!!!

They were kind enough to drive us home before we said our goodbyes.  Thanks once again for your hospitality Chris & Jan.

We left Las Vegas to start our adventure in Lily 5 years ago today.  Here's a LINK to the blog for that first day!!! What an awesome way to celebrate by meeting new friends.
