Summer of 18-#48-Campgrounds, Storms & Traveling!!!

Monday August 27th, 2018
We stayed in today.  I noticed that we could see the lake because some of the campers from the weekend had left.

Someone had setup their hammock.

I watched US Open tennis all day as Andy Murray & fellow Brits were playing.  Andy & Cameron Norris won, but Kyle Edmund lost.
Bryan went out fishing.  I could just see him from the motorhome.

When I looked out the next time he had moved.  It didn't take long to find him.

He didn't catch anything but had a good time trying.

That night, I didn't get a good picture of the sunset, but you can just see the glow through the trees.

We stayed in again as we are leaving tomorrow, and the weather wasn't that good.  At 9.15pm, we got a tornado warning, which we didn't expect. There was a lot of thunder and lightening, and a flood and thunderstorm warning as well. We watched it for a while, and then decided to bring the slides in.  As soon as we did that it seemed to pass over and everything appeared ok again.  So, as quickly as it started it vanished, but it was quite scary for about 30 minutes.  We were fortunate that it didn't continue through the night as we wouldn't have got much sleep.

Sorry the picture is a little blurred but this is it with the slides in.  Note, Bryans armchair is in front of the door but we could have climbed over it to get out.  It was fortunate that we didn't have to stay like this long and we have learned a few tricks if we have to do this in a hurry again.

Today was moving day.  We like this campground but it isn't the easiest to get in and out of, and we had seen someone nearly tip his trailer over as he left on a prior day, so we developed a different way to get out which worked well.

Before we left though, I took a few pictures of the campground by us.
This was a power box with a fan next to it.  We're not sure of the purpose for this, but maybe due to heat and keeping the box cool, or at the other extreme blowing snow away from the box.  There were several like this throughout the campground.

Power transformer high up the post??
The lake in the distance.

The playground behind us and remnants of the storm last night.

The weather forecast wasn't good today, and it rained most of the way to Northern Bear Paw RV Park in Tawas City.

We stopped, in Glennie, to fill up the gas tank.  I took a picture of this party store because every time I see a "party" store I think it's for getting paper hats, plates, goodie bags etc etc for throwing a party.  I have found out that up here it is for beer, booze and the essentials for adult parties. Not much in the way of decorations!!!  Ha!!Ha!!

As I waited for Bryan to fill up the tank, it takes a while, I saw this truck pull up.  The man you see on the left walking back to it, got out, took a large pole out of the back of the truck, went to the US flag that you see on the left, and unfurled it with the pole.  It had got wrapped around the flagpole.  He then went back, got in his truck and continued up the road.  I had such a big smile on my face and waved at him as he drove past but I'm sure he didn't see me.  I saw him stop further up the road by another flag, but I couldn't tell if he did the same thing.
These small towns in Michigan are so friendly and patriotic, it is a joy to see.

More rain!!!!  We have been very lucky on our travels, and there has only been a handful of times that we have been caught in rain for an extended period.

It stopped before we reached our campground though.

It was a good thing because there was a lovely field of sunflowers at the entrance.  They were facing the opposite direction but it still gave a lovely happy feel to the place. We will get better pictures another day.

We got settled in our site in time for me to watch Andy Murray & Cameron Norrie lose.  Strangely, although I would have loved to see Andy win, I wasn't that disappointed.  I would like him to gradually get back into playing and be careful not to overdo things.  It's wonderful seeing him back on the court again though.
We decided to go into town and get a takeout for dinner.  We drove on the road from the campground until we came to Tawas Bay.  We turned left and got KFC!!!!  There was a Tim Hortons there as well, so we went through their drive thru and got TimBits!!  We apologized as there were no other customers there, and the couple who were on duty, were having a relaxing break in the car park overlooking the bay, which we disturbed!!  She was all smiles and said that was her job. We were set. Yummy!!

We returned to the RV park, had our dinner and called it a night.  We will go and look for some lighthouses tomorrow!!!
