Today was the day we had to move sites to a front row site. The couple in the spot we were due to move into had started to pack their stuff up yesterday, and so we thought they were the proactive type and not the lingering type. We were hopeful we would be able to move before the 3pm check out time. It became apparent that they were in no hurry. I can't say as I blamed them, but it was very frustrating as we couldn't go anywhere until they moved, and then we could move. Eventually they left about 2pm and we moved into the vacant spot very quickly after that.
In addition to a better view we were also able to get a satellite signal for the television. The sites are not very level but we will put up with that for the view.
We decided not to go out as it was getting late and a day of rest wouldn't hurt us. We had another great sunset and I took these pictures through the windscreen of Lily.
Thursday August 16th, 2018
I sat and drank my morning coffee looking out at Little Traverse Bay with the help of the binoculars.
We wanted to go and find Petoskey Pierhead Lighthouse which wasn't far from the campground.
We found it at the end of a small pier.
It looked more like a harbor light than a lighthouse.
Walking back along the pier we took several pictures of the town and harbor.

There's Tilly waiting patiently for us. She is a little dwarfed by the cars around her but she had a good view of the water.

We didn't really have any plan of where to go next, so we drove out toward Charlevoix. We stopped at this rest area, which was quite pretty.
There was a memorial there to some airmen who lost their lives in a training mission over Lake Michigan in 1971.

This dog was enjoying a paddle.
There were a couple riding bikes, who were having a rest, and I stopped to talk to them and asked them where they had ridden from. They were staying in Petoskey, the same as us, and told me it was about a 26 mile round trip. They didn't seem to be looking forward to the return trip. I told them about our son, Ian, and how he had just completed 80+ miles in his first Velathon in Wales. He told me he had worked in the UK for a while. I asked him where and he said London for the Ministry of Defense. He was a little secretive about where he worked and we didn't ask any questions. They asked about Wales and apparently his wife had suggested the night before, that they go there next summer, as they have seen the rest of the UK and Ireland but not Wales. So we swopped suggestions on Ireland and Wales. Isn't it strange how these meetings happen.
The rest area was beautiful and a nice place to take a break from your travels.

Next stop was Charlevoix. Jan had brought us here on our day out and we decided to go back for another look.

We had to wait as the drawbridge opened to allow a sailboat through.

We parked by the lighthouse and walked to the Round Lake Channel that connects Round Lake to Lake Michigan.
Here's the bridge that we had to stop at, while they raised it to let the sailboat through.

We drove around the Mushroom Houses, some of which can be rented for a holiday stay.

We drove back to our home and were rewarded with this evening sky.
Another interesting day, tomorrow we head north to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
