San Diego Automotive Museum

February 9th, 2016 - San Diego Automotive Museum, Balboa Park

This visit is just a small part of our second visit to Balboa Park.  For a general overview of Balboa and a link to a map, please read the main blog that is available HERE.

Quite appropriately, "The British Invasion", an exhibit featuring British cars, culture and music had just opened.  Sue was happy.

Penny Farthing Bike

I (Sue) have seen two of these pop icons live.  You would probably guess the wrong two.  I saw Elton John when he performed with Billy Joel in Las Vegas.  Billy Joel is one of my favorites.
On 9th August, 1986,  I was at Knebworth Park to see Freddie Mercury and Queen in what was to be his last live performance before he died.  Those were the days!!!  Oops, wrong band!!!

There was quite a selection of motorcycles.

A Jaguar car complete with hood(bonnet) ornament.  I never wanted one of these while I was in England but since I've been in the States I wouldn't mind one.  Unfortunately, they don't make them now with the hood ornament and I wouldn't buy one unless it had the jaguar on the hood!!!!  Just as well as I couldn't afford it anyway.

Louie Mattars Fabulous Car (Read this article) was created from a dream that he had.  It was made into a self sufficient vehicle that enabled him and two friends to establish a cross country endurance record in 1952.  They drove it from San Diego to New York and back without stopping. The round trip was 6,320 miles and required three refuels from a moving gas truck.

He also made a trip to Alaska.

This was a barn find.

This museum was small but interesting.
