San Diego Natural History Museum

February 5th, 2016 - San Diego Natural History Museum, Balboa Park

This visit is just a small part of our day at Balboa Park.  For a general overview of Balboa and a link to a map, please read the main blog that is available HERE

This was the first museum we went into and WOW, what a great start.  There are so many interactive exhibits geared to children here. It's a must do for families, the kids will love it.  Of course, being a big kid at heart I loved it as well!!!

Front Entrance
Foucault Pendulum  - Fascinating, I was mesmerized
Ok, kids or grandkids - What type is this? Anyway, it had interactive eggs(see below)
You pressed buttons and the eggs hatched at different stages.  Bryan will tell you it doesn't take much to fascinate me.
Another flying type, guess it was hungry!!!
Bryan wasn't sure which one was the monster!!
These looked real

Playing with switches again. Don't you just love interaction.
I'm scaaaared, help!!!!
The Earth as it is now. The red spot is San Diego. Watch that spot!!
Fast forward 250 million years, see the red spot. All the continents are combining. The Uk is at the top.

Giant Sloth.  Ryan & I love sloths.  Not sure about a giant one though.
These realistic different critters kept showing up everywhere

The writing reads"This bejeweled, enameled egg holds a miniature replica of Balboa park's beloved carousel.  Each hand-carved animal depicts one of the actual 56 that revolve on the real carousel.  The egg took 18 years to create--and yes, it really plays music.  The real carousel is outside behind you, beyond the giant fig tree and the parking lot." J.Grahl Designs, circa 2007.

View from the window over San Diego
There were a few live animals here as well
Lizard
Frog
Rattlesnake
A great place for adults and children alike.  I was telling Bryan that it would be a good place for a school field trip when a school group arrived.  Thoroughly enjoyed all three floors that are here, the top floor was a photographers' exhibit of birds as art, some taken locally.
