Today is our grandson Kai's 4th Birthday. HaPpY HaPpY Birthday Kai from Nanny America (I LOVE my Nanny America name, makes me feel like a super heroine) & Papa. Have an awesome day. Nanny Ed would love his choice of football team.
We went to
Newberry National Volcanic Park which is just south of Bend, Oregon.
We got a tram up to
Lava Butte. This is a cinder cone that has only experienced one eruption that is estimated to be about 7,000 years ago. In 1966, astronauts trained here for the moon landings.

Next we went to
Lava River Cave. The eruption that is believed to have formed this is estimated to be 80,000 years ago. This is the longest continuous lava tube in Oregon.

| Going into the cave |
Bryan had a flashlight and we rented a lantern for $5. It was money well spent as it was extremely dark down there and the ground was very uneven. We had to scramble over rocks quite frequently but we survived!!!

We reached this sign and I believe this is the halfway point through the cave. We decided to turn around and go back as we had seen enough and the remainder looked much the same.

| See the torch we rented, it was quite heavy duty |
It was a lovely day out and very interesting. We are glad that we saw the lava tube but have decided that now we've seen one we don't need to see another. I did have another one in the plans so I will delete that outing from our trips, ha!!ha!!
I finally found some Bacon chips and a curry that tastes good and is very easy to make.
