Summer of 18-#25-Lighthouses, Water & Museums, an awesome photo day!!!

Tuesday July 17th, 2018

We called to schedule a rv mechanic to come out to look at our washing machine and awning, both of which are not working.  The earliest they could get someone here was the 24th.  That gives them 19 days to get warranty approval, the parts and do the repairs.

It was a lovely day and we decided to go out and see lighthouses.

Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse was our first stop.  What a fantastic vision it was.  The weather was perfect, although windy, which gave us spectacular waves pounding against the pier, and cotton candy type clouds in the blue sky.  It was mesmerizing and we took lots of pictures.  After the worries of the last few days, our spirits were instantly lifted.

The upper walkway that the keepers would use when the waters were rough!!!!  Here's a VIDEO that shows Bryan climbing these steps to get a better picture!!!!

Channel light on the opposite side of the harbor.
So many pictures, it was hard to choose!!!

Bryan survived his photography session on the steps!!!

This was the walkway coming back from the lighthouse showing the coastguard boat.

Good weather for flying kites!!!

Not so sure about swimming!!! 😨

We decided to try and get to the park we could see on the other side of the channel.  This model lighthouse was on a roundabout at the entrance to a housing estate.

We found the park and riverwalk.  The Manistee River flows into Lake Michigan here.

Looking back across at the Coastguard Station.

The Manistee Lions Pavilion.

This is from the S.S. Glen according to the stone, but I can't find any history on it!!!

Coastguard heading out.

We walked along toward the lighthouse on the opposite side of the channel.

This was at the end of the walkway.

Dead Fish, dinner maybe but not for us!!!
On this side there was a small beach.

Wisconsin was 54,300 strokes!!
Think we'll go to Wisconsin by road...........Estimated arrival Summer 2021!!!

Next, we went to the Manistee County Historical Museum as we wanted to get a stamp for our lighthouse passport.

It was in this building.

A gentleman was in there helping a lady with a photo she had and was trying to learn more about it.  She left and he welcomed us, we got our stamp and started to look around the museum.

Boy, oh boy, if you have ancestors from this part of the world, this is the place to go.  They have so many different types of records, you could be in here forever!!!!  I almost want to find some ancestors from here so I can go back.

Rooms and rooms of different things.  I'll let you look at the pictures.

Found this radiator interesting with the built in shelf on top.

Look Mom, these cigars have your name on them.

1901 Oldsmobile
Wonder if this is empty or not!!!!

Different books of old papers and pictures.

I took this random picture from one of the books.  It was from the Salt Mines.

1895 Slot Machine
Look at this hand carved rocking chair.  This elderly gentleman was just sitting there rocking gently.  I asked him if he was from the area and he told me he was a volunteer here and had lived here most of his life.  We had an interesting conversation about the museum and the many things they have here.

What an amazing place, so much to see that you couldn't possibly see it all in one visit.  If only my family came from here.

Back outside and near to where we were parked was this.  What a beauty.

This was part of the riverwalk that we saw the start of, at the lighthouse.  If we were healthier it would be lovely to walk this.

We had one more lighthouse to see.  On the way we passed the S.S. City of Milwaukee, a 1930's steamship that is now open to tour.  We didn't stop to do the tour.

Our last stop of the day was Portage Lake Lighthouse. These two pictures were the extent of what there was to see here.  I didn't get out of the car, ha!!ha!!

Scenery on the way back home

and Bitchin Betty took us down another dirt road!!!

We made it home safe and sound though.  What a great day we had.
