We had two lighthouses to visit today. We went to the closest one first. White River Light Station was a cute lighthouse that was tucked away down some narrow streets at the other end of White Lake.
Inside you went up a small flight of stairs to what has been made into a small museum.
I loved this picture.
There were a lot of interesting exhibits.
A view of White River from inside the lighthouse.
After touring the museum we headed up the stairs of the lighthouse.
The view from the window was wonderful.
But the view from the top was even better!!!

I started back down in front of Bryan and got this picture of him starting his descent.
and looking down the stairs
The information on the sign reads "This weight and pulley system was used before the light station was electrified. The lens was rotated at top by the weight supplying the power in the downward stroke. The turning of the light was essential in producing the unique code signal."
Once outside we went down the steps to the pathway alongside the inlet.
We got some good pictures of the lighthouse from down there and there was a seat that we used to have a short rest.
There was a huge fish that we saw several times jumping out of the water. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get any pictures of it, as it moved up and down the inlet quite fast.

It was a sobering reminder of how quickly life can change.
Next we went to Muskegon South Pierhead Lighthouse. It was next to the CoastGuard Station.
It is the home of the NOAA Lake Michigan Field Station

There was a small group of children on an outing, probably from a daycare, sitting outside the lighthouse drawing pictures.
Inside, we met one of the guides and had a lovely conversation with her about the lighthouses we had seen, volunteering, and she told us about this one.

Once again there were some marvelous views from the top.
There was a bench behind the lighthouse and we sat down looking out at Lake Michigan & taking pictures of the lighthouse from the back.
There was a young lady there looking up and waving at a young girl in the window. I asked her if she would like a picture taken of the girl and she said "Yes, please." She explained that she was looking after her sisters children while they went for a holiday to England. She couldn't take any pictures because she had forgotten her camera and her phone didn't have much battery power left, and she needed it for the GPS to get home. She said her sister would love the picture. We chatted for a while and she gave me her e-mail address to send the picture to. Our good deed for the day. I told her we would delete the pictures of the girl once I had sent them. The girl is looking through the window in the picture below but you can't make out her face in this one.
We walked slowly back along the pier.
This tree stump was near the car park.
That was it for the day, it was quite hot today and we headed home exhausted!!!!
