Sullivan's Island and Morris Island Lighthouses

May 21st, 2014

Today we went looking for lighthouses.  Again you say, are they obsessed? Well, we very well could be.  Lighthouses do seem to be taking over our lives but we are enjoying it.

The plan was to visit two lighthouses today, Sullivan's Island and Morris Island but on the way we came across this.  It was called Lighthouse on The Creek and is an events center that you can hire for special events.

We continued on to Sullivan's Island Lighthouse. This lighthouse isn't open to the public but the grounds are.  It has air conditioning and an elevator.

The lighthouse is across the street from Fort Moultrie previously known as Fort Sullivan.  We decided we wouldn't look at any of the forts or plantations around Charleston as we have seen a few in the other areas we have been, although when we got home we found out that we could have got a lighthouse stamp at the Fort Moultrie Visitor Centre so we may go back for that. Yes, we are obsessed.

We decided to stop and look around this second hand market that was in a dilapidated barn type building.

There were some interesting items for sale.  It is times like this that we are glad we don't have a house anymore and can't be tempted to buy anything as we have no room.  This was one of the older items for sale.

We continued to Morris Island Lighthouse.  This was not accessible as it was in the ocean but you could do a short walk to Folly Beach and see it.  We had to cross another drawbridge to get to the island.  We have lost count of how many bridges we have crossed in our travels.

We drove as far as we could and then parked and started our walk.
This sign showed us the way to go, it was a quarter of a mile to the lighthouse
Nearly there, there was no shade and it was hot but we kept going

I did a short VIDEO while we sat on the beach and had a snack and a drink.

We walked back to the car and started the drive home.  Soon we met this, it was a mobile home being transported and filled the road.  Fortunately there was a right hand turn that we took so we didn't have to wait for it to pass.

We arrived home safe and sound.  Another great day. Take Care.
