Watching Boats, Happy Birthday & Catching Up

April 29th, 2014

We stayed in today and watched people flying kites and boats going by.
This is a kite flying not a bird

Later in the day, I got an e-mail from Apple to tell me my macbook was ready to be collected.  Wow, that was quick.

Firstly, and most importantly, today is our grandaughter Aimee's 7th birthday.  Here's hoping you have a great day Aimee.  We love you lots and send many hugs and kisses. Here's a picture of her waiting to play soccer last year.

And helping me with sudoku, which she chose as the game to play!!  She was very good at it.

We drove to Amelia Island again to get our Lighthouse passport stamped for the lighthouse that is there.    I discovered that neither of us had brought our cameras and so I had to use my phone for the couple of pictures I took today.
While we were waiting for the ferry we saw this truck loaded with packaged seafood.  The packages had labels on that said to keep below 0 degrees and yet these weren't refrigerated and just sitting in the heat. This truck was from Atlantic Seafood which is on Amelia Island, where we were going, and so had probably just picked these up from Mayport.

As we got on the ferry the truck broke down so the seafood was going to be in the heat a bit longer.  Maybe they will destroy the seafood if it is out too long but in any case I'm glad I'm not going shopping there today!!

We had a front row seat on the ferry.

It didn't take long for us to get our lighthouse passport stamped and on the way we followed this truck with freshly cut timber.  You could tell it was fresh as the leaves were still green and we could smell it.

We went to the Apple store and picked up my laptop. On the way the heavens opened and it poured with rain but by the time we got there it had stopped.  Our next stop was the commissary to get our grocery shopping.  Considering it was the last day of the month it was quiet in there.

We were unloading groceries and this ship came in. It was the USS Samuel B Roberts.  This is a frigate, which is the same type of ship that Ryan is on.

Later these went by.

I started to update my laptop as it is now the same as when I bought it and I have to reload everything. I made a mistake by uploading all of my pictures and somehow got multiple copies of everything.  I think I will start from the beginning again tomorrow and clean up the pictures on my portable hard drive before I load anything. That was our day and we got a lot accomplished.

Spent the day getting ready to move tomorrow.  Bryan did laundry and I spent the day trying to get my laptop backed up.  It took all day and I worked on the blog while I was waiting.

Ryan got his ESWS (Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist) Award.  Here is a picture of him receiving it on the ship at sea. Hooyah Ryan.

We really like it here on Mayport Naval base.  Our view of the river, docks & ocean is so relaxing.  Love watching the dolphins and the ships sail by.  It is strange knowing our son is out there somewhere, albeit I don't think he is in this ocean!!  I could stay here forever but they limit you to 2 weeks.  I'm sure we'll be back and I'm hoping I have some other awesome military campgrounds lined up along the East Coast.  Three cheers for the military.
