Summer of 18-#60- Aviation Museum of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky

Thursday September 13th, 2018 - Part 2 of 2

After we left McConnell Springs we headed to the Aviation Museum of Kentucky.  It was a small museum and very friendly.

Bryan likes the planes and I like to read all the history.

WWII

There were items related to the Doolittle Raid.  I was fascinated by this when I saw it at the Dayton AF Museum.

In the foyer of the museum is a model horse, a tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen and the State of Kentucky.

Bryan chatted to a volunteer in the museum, as he usually does.  The guy was very interested in the fact that we had been at RAF Upper Heyford, as he had a book with pictures of planes from many bases. As Bryan had been a crew chief on the planes there, he asked Bryan to sign the Upper Heyford section.  He was getting anyone that came in, and had worked on the planes at the bases, to sign his book.

There was only one outside display and you had to look at it through a wire fence.

The plane below is used for transporting horses.  Kentucky is known for the Kentucky Derby and there were numerous horse ranches everywhere.

We drove past the Kentucky Horse Park.  Unfortunately there weren't any horses out.

I took some pictures of the scenery as we drove home.

We ended up going a longer way around as we got stuck waiting for a train at a crossing.  My UK friends won't understand this, but the freight trains in the USA can be looooonnnnnnnggggggg!!!!! We waited at the crossing for five minutes, as the train went through and there was still no end in sight, so we decided to turn around and find another way home!!!  A school bus in front of us did the same thing!!!  It did add a few extra miles on our journey.

We hadn't been back in the campground for long when another RV came in to park next to us.  Unfortunately, the worker who was guiding them was not very good, and fortunately we were watching.  Bryan had to rush out to stop them as they were reversing into their site, but across ours and would have hit our parked car.  The worker was not happy, but the camper told Bryan that he had said he didn't think he could get into the spot with our car there.  Bryan told him not to worry he would move the car so he could get in, and then put it back once he was settled.  The worker should have asked us to move it in the first place. We were parked in our spot but as the sites are so close, its difficult to get a big rig in the spots.

We had an interesting varied day.  The deer we saw this morning were the highlight for me. Tomorrow we move on to another campground and more adventures.
